Some Important Bike Parts Every Bike Owner Must Have

When it comes to mountain biking, while knowing how to ride a bike is very important, it is even more important for you to know the parts of your bike. After all, if something gets spoilt, you will have no other option to fix it yourself. Here are some key bike parts:

1. Bottom bracket- This is an important part of your bike frame and is the piece which connects the pedal crank with the axle. Without this bottom bracket, the pedals of your bike won’t turn.

2. Crank- This is the main connection between your axle and pedal. It comes in different sets with either two cranks or with a set of sprockets and chain rings which the chain passes through.

3. Cassette- This is a cluster of chain rings which are used on the rear wheel. The main use of this part is to attach the hub with the bike’s frame and to let the chain pass through it.

4. Hub- This is an important part of the wheels of a bike. It has an axle which connects the forms of the front wheel and an outer shell which connects the spokes and bearings of the wheel.

These are the four most important parts of your mountain bike and with the modern technology available today, most bikes have the highest quality materials which don’t get spoilt easily. But it is still recommended that you know how everything works as you never know when something can go wrong. But even when you are going on long bike rides, you can’t really hope to carry these things along with you. It can indeed be quite cumbersome. But there are some parts for which you can take extras along with you.

Additional gears, tubes and chain sets can easily be carried along with your other accessories. Earlier, these parts used to be quite heavy and weren’t easy to carry, but nowadays they are made from light and durable alloys which means you can easily fit them into your backpack and take it with you.

When going on long bike rides, I would recommend that you take these parts along with you just in case you might need them. After all, it’s better to have something and not need it than to not have it and need it.

As far as manufacturers are concerned, it is important that you buy parts and accessories only from reputed manufacturers so that you are certain of their quality. You wouldn’t want to be stuck with poor quality parts in the middle of a mountain now would you?
